Another year, another incredible Kidscreen in the books!
Kidscreen 2025 was packed with groundbreaking insights into kids’ entertainment, and we’re bringing you the highlights so you don’t miss a thing!
For the past few years, Yippee’s Adam Mellema has attended to connect with content producers who bring excellent shows that fit our brand, schmooze with Grade-A talent for potential Yippee originals, and learn from world-class experts on how to serve our families better.
Parents know that Yippee is committed to offering safe, excellent content their kids are excited to watch, and the Kidscreen Summit gives our team a chance to double down and ensure we’re continuing to provide families with a steady, growing number of programming options every single week.
If you missed the big updates from Kidsscreen 2025, here’s a recap of the takeaways to keep you ahead of the curve.
Experts Andrea Strauss and Jane Gould took the stage to share how preschoolers (and their families) are happier than ever. This is contrary to the popular belief that families are more miserable than their counterparts without kids.
A survey of parents also found that the most important attribute they want in kids' content is the portrayal of “positive family relationships.” This ranked higher than " Helping My Child Relax,” “Teaches ABCs, 123s,” etc. Beyond that, survey data shows that parents' top priorities for their preschoolers are safety, success, and feelings in that order.
“At Yippee, this knowledge can actually help us serve families better,” shares Adam Mellema, head of content at Yippee. “With the data showing us that families perceive their bonds are stronger than ever and want that shown on the screen, we can adjust the content we produce and the language we use when marketing to them.”
As families embrace technology more than ever, Kidscreen shed light on how today’s digital-native parents are raising ‘AI-native kids,’ a generation growing up with smart TVs, tablets, and on-demand content as their primary entertainment sources. Data on kids ages 2-5 shows an increase in Smart TV and tablet use, while video game consoles and handheld devices are seeing lower engagement.
It was also interesting to see how the speakers thought of the generational differences in raising children.
See the chart below, which shows what success looked like for previous generations and what that now looks like for Gen Alpha.
At Yippee, we carefully curate a balance of faith-driven programming, engaging entertainment, and shows that blend both, ensuring Christian families always have content that aligns with their values. At the same time, we meticulously vet everything so parents can feel confident their children are watching safe and enriching content.
Of course, Kidscreen wouldn’t be complete without the annual awards! This year, Nickelodeon dominated the competition. As Ryan Tuchow writes, “Tonight was Nickelodeon’s night to shine, with the broadcaster scoring 10 wins at the 2025 Kidscreen Awards ceremony, and coming out on top in categories where it faced stiff competition from other multiple winners including Disney (five), BBC Studios (four) and DreamWorks Animation (three).”
2024’s Avatar: The Last Airbender took home awards for everything from Best Live-Action Series to Best in Class in the Tweens/Teens Programming category. This is especially impressive given the mixed reception the show faced at launch.
Here are two other shows we want to highlight:
The Cat in the Hat Cast Podcast (Wondery, Story Pirates, Dr. Seuss Enterprises) took home best podcast. If you’re a fan of The Cat in The Hat, or other Jim Henson shows, be sure to check out the wide array of Jim Henson shows coming to Yippee this year! The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss and The Doozers are free to stream on Yippee with a 7-day free trial.
Zip and the Tiny Sprouts won Best Web/App Series—Original. This is a cute show we’re huge fans of.
Just check out this description from their website, “Step into the enchanting world of Harmony Hollow, where every visit with Zip, Aria, Riff, and Hum brings a delightful blend of nature’s wonders and imaginative sparkle. These big-hearted heroes—brimming with compassion, courage, and creativity—each have their own quirks and challenges as they learn and grow together. With every new musical adventure, their strengths shine brighter, inviting preschoolers to explore and discover the magic in turning the ordinary into something extraordinary.”
